President Bush's monthlong campaign to convince the public that the government's eavesdropping program is an essential anti-terrorism tool appears to have made an impact, a new AP-Ipsos poll suggests.
Some 48% now support the administration's program to monitor%u2014without a court warrant %u2014 some U.S.-based calls with suspected links to terrorists. That's up from 42% last month. Half now say the administration should have to get a warrant, down from 56% one month ago."
What this poll reflects is 6% of the population who believe what they are told by authority. Still, a majority of Americans believe the President broke the law, and until that statistic is reversed, the White House will continue to be mired in the controversy. Breaking the law, and making an argument that the law was wrong in the first place, is a defense I hope the President will extend all other Americans like thieves, drug users, and murderers.
