About David R. Remer

Admin

The Name: PoliWatch comes from the combination of the two words "political" and "watchdog". That is the purpose of PoliWatch.Org. Actually PoliWatch has two purposes.

The first is to keep an eye on, and publish in one place major political news stories for political watchers.

Secondly, PoliWatch's author, David R. Remer, seeks understanding of the news from related perspectives like philosophy, economics, psychology, sociology, history, and of course, politics. (See next column for qualifications).

PoliWatch actually began under another web site name, Political News & Analysis, using Radio Userland software. While authoring PN&A I was offered a political writing position with WatchBlog. After working at WatchBlog as managing editor for a half a year, I missed the involvement at Political News & Analysis. But when the content outgrew the costs and functions of Radio Userland software, Moveable Type was chosen for the new platform.

So, here you will find an excellently crafted website designed for the political activist, watcher, and debater all in one place. Keep up on the political news. Read an independent's analysis of what the issues are behind the headlines, and debate or add your perspective to Remer's analysis.

Since, you are reading this to find out about me, I will avoid the third person ploy. I will just list my credentials and major activities from the present to past after a short description.

I was raised as a Democrat by a Ford Motor Co. blue collar worker and a stay at home Mom, with 5 sisters and 1 brother. College and philosophy courses shifted my political persuasion to skeptic of both the major parties. Since, leaving the Democratic Party I have remained an Independent voter with liberal social and conservative fiscal leanings, as well as having an affinity for aspects of the Libertarian and Green Party platforms.

I have actually taken two law courses, read the Constitution of the U.S., Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations and Theory of Moral Sentiment, studied the philosophies of economics, arts, and science, as well as turned world history into an avocation. I have been told by those who know me well that I should write. And analytical writing is what I now enjoy most these days, applying a lifetime of learning to this immensely rewarding activity.

Currently: I am founder and president of Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy, or VOID for short. VOID is an organization of volunteers dedicated to ending the corruption in, and restoring democracy to, our politics and government, through replacement of the incumbents who maintain the corrupt status quo of government policy and legislation sold to the highest bidder.

I am 56 years old living in the Hill Country of Texas. I am finishing a 7 year project of constructing my own two story home. Except for drilling the water well, every piece of work on our 5 acres has been accomplished by myself, wife, and daughter. We have done our own engineering, design, pouring foundations, electrical, plumbing, and tile work to roofing. We are proud of never having hired a contractor for any part of our construction. I am glad I did it, but, I would never consider such a monumentally independent undertaking, ever again. The house is built above and beyond code. And no, none of us work in the construction industry. Amazing what one can do with how-to books, eh?

I volunteer as Managing editor and write for Watchblog.Com. I also function fairly well as house Dad for our teen daughter, while the wife brings home the bacon to fuel my endless need for building materials.

Prior to sabbatical, I ran my own BBS business in San Antonio from my home, and worked as an insurance claims adjuster for a major company.

Other professional positions included, Executive Director of a Missouri Arts Council, Managing Director of Avila College's Performing & Visual Arts Department, counselor for federal prisoners in a halfway house, psychiatric technician for various hospitals, stage actor and director for decades (some professional), and way back when, a furnace operator for Ford Motor Co.; a short lived venture in following my father's footsteps.

Education: I spent a year of graduate school in business administration, after receiving a B.A. degree in psychology and minor in Philosophy from Univ. of Texas at San Antonio. In high school I was first a chemistry-biology major before switching to performing arts.

Military: Enlisted in June 1972 in the Army and honorably discharged in Dec. 1975 as an E-5. Military duties included combat medic, platoon sergeant, and later, a psychiatric technician at Chambers Pavilion at Ft. Sam Houston.
