The single greatest threat to America's economic future is health care costs. Without health care reform:

• more than 100 million Americans will be without health insurance over the next 10 to 20 years
• the cost of Medicare/Medicaid will bankrupt the U.S. Government by forcing borrowing to the breaking point
• consumers in 10 years will be spending so much on health care and insurance premiums that they will have little left for discretionary spending, and that will tank economic activity, deepening the government's losses in revenues.

Americans today are politically occupied with either ideals, or greed. Universal health care is an ideal, and falls under the umbrella of all of the ideals specified in the Constitution's preamble; "to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity".

Does one pat her on the back, or ballyhoo her for reneging on her contract with Alaskan voters to represent their interests, instead of her own? In her inexplicable announcement, delivered in her unique meandering, hyper, and hop-scotch spontaneous manner of public speaking, she has left NY Times writers scratching their heads as to what her reasons and motives really are.
